When planning major events, you have to consider a broad base of risks; from natural disasters, technology disasters, and manmade events. Today those include financial considerations, threats of terrorism and other forms of disruption. We hear a lot about events that challenge our ability to identify and manage risk. What this means is that event planners need to be even more vigilant in their prosecution of risk management initiatives. Event planning operations are complex and becoming more complex as more issues need to be addressed with fewer and fewer available resources at an ever-quickening pace. Unpredictability is the new normal. Ask yourself, 'Am I asking the right questions? Or, am I asking questions that give me 'false positives' about how well I have planned for this major event?'
